Project Details & Results

The project proposes to implement energy conservation measures combined with the installation of solar hot water systems in 7 medical facilities constructed in different communities of Armenia. The project is co-financed by the Health Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Health of Armenia which provides around US$2,015,000.00 investment through the WB loan (75%) and state budget (25%) for constructing 13 ambulatories throughout the republic during 2012-2013. The project activities will be implemented in 7 ambulatories in 5 regions of Armenia.

As a result of application of solar hot water systems and implementation of energy efficiency measures in the medical facilities, daily use of at least 1,900 kg of natural gas will reduce which will save up to US$ 900 and prevent 5,320 kg of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere yearly.

The project substantially complements the government’s environmental policy and strategic objectives and serves as a practical model that creates prerequisites for renewable energy sources use and poverty reduction at the community level.

The expected results of the project are:

  • Installation of solar thermal systems and implementation of energy conservation measures in 7 medical facilities constructed in 5 regions of Armenia,
  • Provision of practical trainings on operation and maintenance of solar system for ambulatories staff,
  • Enhanced capacity for community-level decision makers and other stakeholders in development and implementation of locally feasible low-GHG technologies.
