The project envisages the establishment of “green” center at Lernarot community of Aragatsotn region. The community is located at 1730 m above sea level in the mountainous zone with a six-month-long heating season. The community has 454 inhabitants which are mainly occupied in cattle breeding. The community lacks local administration building and there is a high necessity to have a public center for community events, especially for youth.
The project aims to utilize the solar potential of this high-mountainous community and comply with social infrastructure of need. The project is committed to demonstrate application and use of solar energy combined with energy efficient measures.
The activities will contributes to the achievement of the GEF SGP global objectives in a complex manner as well as it addresses the strategic priorities of the SGP Country Programme Strategy, in particular to climate change mitigation, in the meantime developing local capacities, ensuring improvement of local livelihoods and awareness raising.
Project Results:
• Constructing a community center with 150 m2 of the total space,
• Installing a solar hot water system in the center (with solar panels on the roof) for heating in cold period and utilizing hot water for community needs all year round,
• Constructing a public shower unit to be used during warm season,
• Organizing technical training for community members on use of solar hot water system as well as raise awareness on global environmental issues.
